Jeffrey Kaller
Ceramic sculptor with Flanders Gallery, has taken over as Director of Steneby Foundation and deputy University College Director of HDK Steneby, Sweden.

Jeffrey D Kaller, who is 39 years old, has been teaching ceramic art at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia in USA since 2001. He has also been Head of the Department of Art at the same university for a considerable period. Originally from Philadelphia, on the north-eastern seaboard of the USA, since 2001 he has lived and worked in Georgia together with his Swedish wife Tina Reuterberg, who is also a ceramic artist and was educated at, and previously employed at, HDK in Gothenburg. Jeffrey Kaller studied at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, from where he received a Degree of Master of Fine Arts. He also spent a Postgraduate year on a Fulbright scholarship at UIAH, the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland.

"It is a high honor for me to be chosen for the position at Steneby. I am deeply impressed with the excellence of programming, pedagogy and people that make Steneby possible. I look forward to joining the community in Dalsland and find the beautiful location makes it an idyllic environment to focus on art making", says Jeff Kaller.

The current acting Director, Lena Lindhé, will be finishing her post at Steneby in the summer to return to her permanent position at University West.

"During this academic year the managerial focus has been on strengthening quality enhancement activities, along with the organization and decision structure at Steneby. There is now a good level of stability and a strong belief in the future, which is important as the school is facing new challenges in the future that will require additional impetus and development in the artistic, pedagogical and administrative areas. I believe that with his expertise, together with the existing management team and the two principal organizers, Jeff Kaller can take Steneby even further", emphasizes Lena Lindhé.

Hans Hedberg, Dean of the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, University of Gothenburg, has been responsible for the recruitment process together with Lena Hult, chair of the board of Steneby Foundation.

"This is a very exciting recruitment that reflects the fact that to an increasing degree, the artistic field is engaged in a global reality with global networks. Our conviction is that Jeffrey Kaller's leadership will further strengthen HDK Steneby's and Steneby Foundation's quality, and will increase the prospects of the courses making an even larger impression, nationally and internationally. We are extremely satisfied with the recruitment of Jeffrey Kaller", says Hans Hedberg and Lena Hult in a joint comment.

Jeffrey Kaller is being appointed as deputy University College Director of HDK Steneby and as Director of Steneby Foundation from 1 August 2008. He intends to settle with his family, consisting of his wife Tina and two boys, 3 and 5 years old, in one of the urban areas in Northern Dalsland.

The courses at Steneby are mainly specialised in wood, metal and textiles. HDK Steneby works in close conjunction with the courses at the School of Design and Crafts, HDK, in Gothenburg and is part of the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg.
